Fantastic Fractals Creative Workshop
Mary Pullen Deacon hosts an engaging and fun, family friendly creative workshop inviting participants of all ages to explore paper engineering and image alteration, creating their own unique changing picture. Participants will explore the world of altered images, drawing on Mary’s paper engineering skills and taking inspiration from our current exhibition Transitions by Alan Abrahams.
Each participant will take home a unique paper artwork to keep and treasure!

Dis Donc! French Language Drama Group
Dis Donc! is a brand new French language drama group, taking place in Colchester’s fabulous Headgate Theatre Rehearsal Studio.
Join in Dis Donc! informal and fun sessions, devised and led by local multilingual creative education specialist, Mary Pullen Deacon, founder and director of Line and Language.
Mary, is a fluent French speaker and highly experienced educator with three decades of experience of teaching languages, combining drama and literature, to inspire, enrich and enthuse her students.
During the Dis Donc! sessions, you will have the opportunity to practise and develop your French language skills in sound and speech; warm up with (gentle) movement exercises; engage in improvised and scripted acting activities; explore Francophone culture and literature; and collaborate in the creation of short and relaxed performance pieces.
Dis Donc! sessions are suitable for participants with a minimum GCSE / CEFR B1 or equivalent level of French language speaking skills.
The workshop fee includes specialist teaching in French language and drama; one to one attention during the session; and light refreshments.
Loose fitting, comfortable clothing and a bottle of water are advised.

SPACE Colchester Open Studios 2025
I am overjoyed to be participating in SPACE Colchester Open Studios 2025.
Come and explore our artists’ studios at [ space ] Colchester located at 37 Queen Street. Meet artists, photographers, designers, illustrators and other creatives, face to face and buy works of art directly from our studios.
The day coincides with Colchester’s Heritage Open Days (12-21 September 2025).




First Thursdays: Artists' Books in the Wild!
Join book artist and illustrator Mary Pullen Deacon for an al fresco, mindful, creative workshop. We will begin with meet and greet and creative warm up at Patch, then we will go outdoors for an enriching experimental drawing session, taking time to visually record whatever catches your eye - flora, fauna, architecture and humans.
We will retreat to Patch Café where you will turn your artwork into a simple yet beautiful artist's book to take away and treasure. As a group, we will reflect, show artwork and chat over a drink.

Firstsite Holiday Fun
Come along and join me at Firstsite, Colchester for a Holiday Fun creative making workshop.
You will be offered to opportunity of taking part in my FREE creative workshop, making artwork in reponse to Firstsite’s current exhibitions.

NSEAD Artist-Teacher in Adult Community Learning Conference
Join me in attending the NSEAD Artist Teacher in Adult Community Learning Conference: Beyond Boundaries. I am delivering a practical and creative workshop at the conference, online on Saturday 22nd March 2025.

Mary will inspire and pass on fine tuned skills and in depth knowledge - to YOU, as she invites you to enter a safe, welcoming and nurturing space in Studio 204, where you can spend time calmly learning, experimenting, exploring ideas and making artwork.
Each workshop invites you to explore an element of Mary’s creative practice resulting in your own unique piece of art work.
Mary’s workshop groups are limited to a small number of places to ensure that she can give you quality individual attention and instruction within the group setting.
You may be a newbie; returning to the world of art; or an experienced creative seeking time and space to (re)connect with your inner creative and make artwork - all are welcome and Mary will carefully guide you towards attaining your personal goals.
Your workshop fee includes expert tuition; use of traditional and modern tools and equipment; all materials (high quality, eco friendly); a hot drink and edible treat!
The workshop is an inclusive space and participants with additional needs are welcome.

Mudras, Movement and Markmaking
Come along to a culturally enriching and fully entertaining evening of classical Indian Dance and simultaneous Experimental Live Drawing. Presented by creative female duo: dancer Jaymini Bedia and visual artist Mary Pullen Deacon, this event promises unique and entertaining performance with the invitation to participate - dance and draw! Embrace the longest day and take time out, learning to hand bind a dos à dos book reflecting the Summer Solstice event.

Budding Bookbinder Workshop II
Retreat from the everyday and enjoy a calm interlude, settled in the café atrium, creating your very own unique hand bound books.
Learn hand sewn binding techniques, using traditional tools and quality sustainable and recycled materials. The two workshops will be distinct and complementary!
Spaces are limited to allow for high quality individual tuition within the group and to nurture a feeling of wellbeing in the lovely space at Colchester’s Café Saison.
